Global Sustainability Takes Center Stage at WETEX 2024: Innovations, Collaborations, and Key Milestones

Updated: Oct 9

The 26th edition of the Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) was held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from October 1 to 3, 2024. Organized by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), WETEX 2024 attracted a global audience, establishing itself as a pivotal platform for addressing pressing sustainability issues, promoting technological innovation, and fostering international collaboration in the water, energy, and environmental sectors. The event saw participation from numerous global and local entities, aiming to advance solutions for critical environmental challenges, especially water security and sustainable energy.

WETEX 2024

WETEX 2024 showcased impressive global engagement, with over 1,750 exhibitors representing 55 countries. This year’s event saw an unprecedented surge in international participation, including a significant representation from China, with more than 200 Chinese companies participating, making this the largest Chinese delegation in the history of WETEX. These companies highlighted innovations in areas such as water management, renewable energy, smart cities, and advanced environmental technologies. Exhibitors spanned multiple sectors, including energy, sustainability, IT, and industrial water solutions, emphasizing WETEX’s role as a hub for cross-sectoral collaboration.

WETEX also witnessed substantial participation from European companies, including representatives from Belgium’s Walloon region, presenting cutting-edge solutions in water treatment and hydrogen technology. The high level of international interest underscores WETEX’s reputation as a key meeting point for global thought leaders, policymakers, and innovators in green technology.

Notable Exhibitions and Technological Innovations

Exhibitors at WETEX 2024 brought a wide array of innovations. Some of the prominent solutions presented include:

Electric Motor Systems for Energy Efficiency:

WEG, a global leader in electrical systems, showcased electric motors designed to enhance energy efficiency in water desalination processes. These motors are essential in regions like the Middle East, where water-intensive operations drive high energy consumption.

Industrial Water Treatment Technologies:

Companies such as Circular Materials introduced solutions that recover dissolved metals from industrial wastewater, transforming waste into valuable resources. This approach aligns with the UAE’s broader goals of reducing environmental impact and promoting sustainability.

Advanced Water Filters:

Chinese companies, including YUNDA H&H TECH, showcased high-performance water filtration systems, contributing to global efforts in sustainable water management.

Renewable Energy Solutions:

Kaltech Energy highlighted solar-powered water heating and cooling systems, furthering the shift toward renewable energy adoption. Their innovative water tank coolers and thermal batteries offer sustainable solutions for water management.

Hydrogen Water Systems:

EMT introduced a cutting-edge system capable of converting drinking water into hydrogen-rich water, contributing to healthier lifestyles while integrating seamlessly with existing filtration systems.

Prominent Government Projects

One of the standout features of WETEX 2024 was the focus on government-led initiatives that underscore the UAE’s commitment to sustainability. DEWA, the event organizer, played a central role in promoting its Shams Dubai initiative, which encourages building owners to install photovoltaic panels, thus contributing to clean energy production across the city. This initiative forms part of Dubai's broader Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to generate 75% of the emirate’s energy from renewable sources by mid-century.

In addition to this, WETEX also highlighted government partnerships with private enterprises, focusing on joint efforts to combat the global water crisis. Projects aimed at improving desalination efficiency and expanding the use of solar energy in water treatment were heavily featured, demonstrating Dubai’s forward-thinking approach to resource management.

Key Takeaways from WETEX 2024
